Our quarry is located on the Marte deposits, formed over 30 million years through the accumulation of marine sediment and fossilised coral. This biogenic origin gives the stone its uniform structure, workability, and characteristic tonal variation.
For over three generations, the Bruhn family has maintained stewardship of this resource, developing the quarry from a regional operation into a national supplier of architectural limestone. Today, Bruhn Limestone has been used across thousands of residential, commercial and civic projects throughout Australia.
Our quarrying process is designed to preserve material integrity while reducing environmental impact. Unlike conventional hard rock extraction methods that rely on blasting, Mount Gambier limestone is cut directly from the quarry face using precision mobile saws. This method produces clean, dimensionally stable blocks with minimal waste and reduced energy input.
The raw stone is then processed on site into a modular range of Plainface, Bevel Edge and Rockface blocks, as well as custom architectural elements including moulds, columns and carved components. Standard block sizes are designed for efficient handling and installation by bricklayers and stonemasons.
Bruhn operates a dedicated transport division to manage the complete delivery process. Our fleet of B-Double trucks, operated by trained in-house drivers, ensures consistent handling from quarry to site.
Each shipment is palletised, securely strapped and shrink-wrapped to maintain material condition during transport. By controlling logistics directly, we ensure the stone arrives in a dry, stable and installation-ready condition.
