Limestone Coast Technical College
A contemporary educational building defined by material clarity and structural expression.
Designed by Russell & Yelland, the Limestone Coast Technical College integrates mass timber construction with solid Mount Gambier limestone to form a robust and materially legible civic environment. The project prioritises permanence and environmental responsiveness over applied finishes, using natural stone as both structure and architectural language.

Externally, custom-profiled Plainface limestone blocks form a series of vertical fins across the facade, introducing depth, rhythm and shadow to the building envelope. These elements articulate the scale of the openings while reinforcing the structural grid of the design.

Internally, a double-height limestone wall anchors the central atrium, providing a continuous material datum beneath the exposed timber structure. The relationship between stone and timber defines the spatial character of the building, balancing mass with lightness across large internal volumes.

Delivered by Kennett Builders with stonework by Reilly Builders, the project demonstrates the performance of natural limestone in institutional architecture where durability, clarity and long-term maintenance are critical design drivers.
